Update: Kidney transplant patient d!es after money raised online for her treatment was allegedly stolen


Ruth Hwara, who had been awaiting a kidney donation that could have saved her life, has tragically passed away.


Entrepreneur and influencer Joey Nyikadzino verified the tragic news on her Facebook page.


On Thursday, August 15, Nyikadzino revealed the sad news. She said that she had received a message in the Hwara family WhatsApp group informing her of Ruth's de@th.

In addition to offering her sympathies, she warned those who had postponed Ruth's medical care that they would suffer the wrath of God. 


“We just saw a message in the Hwara group that Ruth is no more. May her soul rest in peace. Zimbabwe wanted you to live and fulfill your dreams, but it was not to be. Whoever delayed Ruth’s treatment, may God deal with you,” Joey Nyikadzino wrote in her post.

 

Only a week has passed since it was discovered that Tendai Chibwe, an Ecocash agent in Dzivarasekwa 4, may have embezzled US$13,000 in donations intended for Ruth Hwara's kidney transplant. Chibwe, 46, appeared before Harare magistrate Simon Kandiyero on fraud charges and was given bail of US$100. His next court appearance is set for September 26.


Ruth's uncle, Nigel Makono, started the scenario by using social media to generate the money needed for Ruth's urgent medical surgery. Donations were made to Makono's EcoCash account; however, he finally ran into trouble with the transaction limit and had to ask Chibwe for help.

Chibwe is charged with misleading Makono by claiming the money was there but only giving him a small percentage of the total. According to reports, Makono transferred an additional $13,000 but only received $1,100 from Chibwe. When questioned about the other monies, Chibwe reportedly became evasive.


Many people are crying for Ruth and wondering why her care was delayed after her sudden death.
