Spanish-born Nigerian striker, Samu Omorodion’s move to Chelsea collapses due to major problem finalising contract

The mooted trade between Chelsea and Atletico Madrid for forward Samu Omorodion has fallen through.

According to a previous report from The Athletic, Chelsea and their La Liga opponents reached an agreement for Omorodion worth £34.5 million (€40 million).

The Athletic's David Ornstein reports that although the Spain U21 international was due to sign a contract with the Blues for an estimated €40 million, the transaction has fallen through.

It was anticipated that he would sign seven-year contracts with a one-year option at Stamford Bridge.

However, a significant issue with completing the 20-year-old's contract has put an end to the transfer.

Since then, the south west of London has contacted Atletico about the prospect of signing Joao Felix.

Chelsea's bid of €32.5 million (£27.4 million) plus add-ons for Omorodion was turned down in June.

He played the entire previous season on loan at Deportivo Alaves, where he finished in 10th position in La Liga with nine goals and one assist.

This summer, Chelsea has examined several striker targets. Any agreement for Omorodion was unrelated to the ongoing, anticipated to continue, talks between Chelsea and Napoli for Romelu Lukaku and Victor Osimhen.

Omorodion, who was born in Nigeria, swore allegiance to Spain on the international scene and has been called up to the under-19 and under-21 national teams.
