Simone Biles' estranged birth mother seeks forgiveness for abandoning her
Gymnastics sensation Simone Biles's estranged mother, Shanon Biles, has expressed her desire to rebuild her relationship with her daughter.
The gymnastics star's biological mother, Shanon, expressed optimism in an interview with the Daily Mail that she would eventually be able to beg the seven-time Olympic gold winner for forgiveness over her past.
When Simone and Adria were still toddlers, 52-year-old Shanon handed them up to their grandparents, Ron and Nellie Biles, while she struggled with alcohol and drug addiction.
“I would like to make amends with Simone personally — I’m just waiting for her and [her younger sister] Adria,” Shanon told the Daily Mail. “I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward.
“I’m waiting for the opportunity but I’m waiting on her to be able to come to me. Let’s sit down. I just have to be patient.”
Days after the Summer Olympics concluded and Simone solidified her status as the gymnastics champion by winning three gold medals and one silver, bringing her total career medal count to eleven, the publication released the interview with Shanon.
Back in Columbus, Ohio, where Simone and her sister had previously resided before relocating to foster homes and ultimately being adopted by her grandparents in Texas, Shanon claimed to have been watching the game. Shanon got together to watch the sports with neighbors and friends.
Simone and Shanon don't get along well and don't speak to each other directly right now.
“What I hear about Simone I hear through my dad. I speak to my dad all the time. We’re good now. It was just his birthday, and I called to wish him happy birthday,” Shanon said.
“If I need to know anything I call my dad. I ask him about Simone, and he keeps me posted,” she added.
While living with their biological mother, Simone and Adria Biles struggled to find a stable home life. Ron and Nellie Biles reared Simone and Adria in the Houston, Texas region.

When Shanon was referred to as her mother in the past, Simone was keen to correct her.
Shanon has been employed as a cashier at Save A Lot, a low-cost grocery shop, and she informed the Daily Mail that she is sober and clean.
“I’m not the person I used to be. I’m OK, today. I’m a loving person,” she said, while still feeling the pain of missing out on some of the biggest moments of Simone’s life such as her wedding with Bears safety Jonathan Owens.
Shanon wishes he could go back in time and tell Adria and Simone "how it really was" in those early days. He also wants to express to Simone his love and pride for her.
Kevin Clemons, Simone's biological father, has also stated that he wants to get close to the gymnast. Shanon admitted to being in communication with him to the outlet.
She acknowledged that she could reach Simone directly at her number, but she promised not to initiate contact.
“I do have a direct number, but I won’t use it,” Shanon said.
“I want her to reach out to me. She’s 27 now. She’s married. I would have liked to have been a part of that, but I just have to wait for her. You can’t push anybody.
“It hasn’t happened yet, but I have patience. I’m waiting on her.”
