Our soldiers advancing farther into Russia - Zelensky says as Ukrainian soldiers distribute food to Russian civilians

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, declared on Wednesday, August 14, that his forces were "moving further" into Russia as the largest-ever cross-border assault on Kyiv entered its second week.

In the largest foreign army offensive on Russian land since World War II, the Ukrainian army invaded the Kursk region of Russia on August 6 and took control of numerous settlements.

According to a source in Kyiv's security services, Ukraine launched the "largest attack" of its sort since Moscow invaded in 2022 on four Russian airfields separately on Tuesday night using drones.

"In the Kursk region, we are moving further. From one to two kilometres (0.6-1.2 miles) in different areas since the beginning of the day," Zelensky said on social media.

Additionally, he declared that "more than 100 Russian servicemen" had been taken by Ukraine during that time, and that this would "speed up the return home of our boys and girls".

A state of emergency was also issued in the neighboring Russian region of Belgorod, as Ukraine readied itself for an invasion of the area.

According to information released by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) on Wednesday, as of Monday, Ukrainian forces have moved across at least 800 square kilometers of Russian territory.

In a statement, Russia claimed to have blocked attempts by Ukrainian forces to advance farther into the Kursk region in five different places.

"The attempts by enemy mobile units using armoured equipment to break through deeper into Russian territory have been repelled," its defence ministry said.

Ukraine said Tuesday it would not hold on to Russian land it captured and offered to stop raids if Moscow agreed a "just peace".

"The sooner Russia agrees to restore a just peace... the sooner the raids by the Ukrainian defence forces into Russia will stop," Ukrainian foreign ministry spokesman Georgiy Tykhy said.

Also Ukraine said Russia left its citizens without food, water and medicine, and that the Ukrainian army will provide Russian citizens left in Kursk with adequate care.

Additionally, Ukraine asserted that the Russian army will give the remaining Russian nationals in Kursk the proper treatment, despite the fact that Russia left its inhabitants without food, water, or medicine.
