Godfather II actor John Aprea dies at 83
At the age of 83, John Aprea, the actor most recognized for playing the father of John Stamos in "Full House" and as a young Tessio in "The Godfather Part II," passed away.
Aprea passed away in Los Angeles from natural causes while surrounded by his loved ones, according to his manager Will Levine, who confirmed this to CBS News.
Aprea moved to New York City in the early 1960s and started his acting career. He was born in Englewood, New Jersey, in 1941 to Italian immigrants.

After moving to Los Angeles, he eventually got his big break in the 1967 Steve McQueen film "Bullitt." The job that proved to be the high point of Aprea's career was playing the youthful Salvatore "Sal" Tessio in "The Godfather Part II," which marked his debut.
His first audition was for the role of Michael Corleone in "The Godfather," which Al Pacino eventually cast him in.
Actor Abe Vigoda, who played the older Tessio in "The Godfather," was apparently contacted by Aprea in preparation for his role.
"Just have a good time, kid," Vigoda told him, a bit of counsel that Aprea treasured throughout his career.
Aprea’s career spanned multiple TV shows and movies, including “The Montefuscos,” “The Idolmaker,” and “Matt Houston.” He also appeared in popular series like “Mannix,” “The Rookies,” “NYPD Blue,” and films such as “The Stepford Wives,” “American Anthem,” and “The Game.”
Aprea played Jesse Katsopolis's (John Stamos) father, the exterminator, on ABC's "Full House" from 1988 until 1991. Later, in the 2017 Netflix revival of "Fuller House," he returned to this character.

In addition to his stepchildren Valentino Garci and Marika Parker, John Aprea is survived by his third wife, Betsy Garci, and his daughter Nicole from his previous marriage to actress Cherie Latimer.
Through his enduring contributions to television and movies, his legacy lives on.
