12 burnt to de@th, four injured on Lagos-Ibadan expressway



On Tuesday, August 13, an accident occurred at the Malo, Ogere region of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, leaving four people critically injured and twelve people charred to death.

The collision was confirmed by Florence Okpe, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesman in Ogun, in a statement released in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

According to Okpe, the accident happened at 3:14 p.m. and involved a Mazda bus with the registration number DDA 733 XA.

She said that after making an improper overtake, the driver lost control of the bus, causing it to crash into the road barrier, tumble, and catch fire right away. 


“16 people were involved in the accident, comprising 12 men, three women and one female child.

“Four men were injured, while others were burnt to de@th,” she said.

According to Okpe, the wounded individuals were brought to Patmag Hospital in Ogere.

She also mentioned that Akinwunmi Fasakin, the Sector Commander, had advised drivers to always abide by traffic laws and regulations. 

“The Sector Commander commiserates with the families of the crash victims and wishes the injured persons quick recovery.

“He, however, called on motorists to maintain stipulated speed on the highway and also ensure a clear road before overtaking,” she said.
