In Ilọrin, the capital of Kwara State, a family consisting of a mother and her three children, reportedly died after consuming rice.


On Saturday, August 17, 2024, the incident took place near the Asa Dam route in the Oshin area.


In what has been regarded as a possible case of food poisoning, all of the corpses have been buried in accordance with Islamic customs.

Abibat, Zainab, and Abdulfatai, the three murdered children, were estimated to be 9, 7, and 5 years old, respectively.


The family reportedly cooked rice for breakfast on Saturday morning before the parents departed. 


 

“In the evening, when they returned, the mother was making preparation for dinner and instructed that the eldest daughter who was sleeping should be woken up when they noticed she was cold and gnashing her teeth," a source told Daily Trust

 

“She was rushed to Oreofe Hospital where they were referred to Ilọrin General Hospital and then University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) where she was pronounced dead."

But when they fetched their sister's corpse and hurried them to UITH, they encountered the other two kids who were displaying the same symptoms.

 

"On Sunday, their mother also started vomiting and was rushed to UITH where the three of them d!ed in the wee hours of Monday. Their father has now been admitted also for a test having eaten from rice the meal,” the source said. 

 

Alhaji Jagunmolu Adinni, the patriarch of the family, stated on Monday night that people were still coming in to offer their condolences for the occurrence.

Alhaji Jagunmolu Adinni discussed the occurrence and remarked that although it was unfortunate, he had accepted it as a test from the All-Powerful Allah. 

 

“The father is still in the hospital left with only a son, Muhammad Basheer,” he added.
