Anyaoku-led The Patriots meets Tinubu, calls for ‘new democratic constitution
Eminent Nigerians, on the platform of The Patriots, met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, on Friday and called for a people’s democratic constitution.
The Patriots also recommended that the President and the state governors hold talks with the organizers of the nation's current rallies.
They also cautioned security services from employing deadly force against the demonstrators.
Following the meeting, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the head of The Patriots, addressed reporters.
Anyaoku revealed that President Tinubu was also asked by The Patriots to present an Executive Bill to the National Assembly and call a National Constituent Assembly to establish a new national constitution.

He declared that members of the Constituent Assembly would be chosen by popular vote, without regard to party affiliation, from each of the 36 member states of the federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT, Abuja.
The former Commonwealth Secretary General went on to say that a referendum ought to be included in the new constitution.
